How this blog came to be...

What started out as an informal afternoon gathering of firetwirlers and other creative types turned to "there's nothing much to do in this town" and a general discussion about creating your own fun. I'm a firm believer that nothing happens unless you make it happen.

For those of you who don't know where [or what] Lismore is...it's a pretty typical larger regional centre in northern New South Wales, Australia. It has a pretty vibrant alternate and contemporary arts community and a fairly large student population in Southern Cross University as well as TAFE.

There are a few events on the creative calendar, the Lismore Lantern Parade, the Lismore A&I Show and of course, a huge New Years Eve party/festival called Tropical Fruits which is produced by the wider GLBTIQ community.

Whilst there are a few galleries in town catering for the visual arts, most performance arts are relegated to the theatre and classic or contemporary works.

Excuse the digression but I had to set the scene.

Back to the story ~ after a few bevvies and much discussion around the coffee table it became evident there was a general willingness to share skills & potential for a regular gathering somewhere in town. And so the idea was born.

I offered to shoot some images and video for a couple of the guys sitting round the table and we arranged to meet the following afternoon to meet up again in a small park a short walk away.

It was a relaxed and fun night and pretty funny when 2 guys appeared out of the darkness to inform us we were on private property! They were pretty cool [considering there were a few beers in hand as we were explaining our intentions.] As it turned out they were mostly concerned that we were sussing the space out for an all-out party in the not too distant future.

Pleasantries were exchanged, a business card was handed over and shouts of delight were heard from their verandah as the tricks progressed.

Here's some sample shots and a design for a flyer I did up that evening [being inspired to get the ball rolling :)
